Tips for Maintaining Your Concrete Parking Lot

Concrete-Parking-Lot-Tampa-1000-ffccccccWhite-3333-0.20.3-1Concrete is everywhere in America, and it’s the building material of choice for all sorts of projects, including foundations, bridges, sidewalks, and parking lots. The types of concrete used by concrete resurfacing companies in Tampa are highly refined mixtures of fine aggregate and carefully formulated additives that increase strength and durability. However, that doesn’t mean concrete is maintenance-free. After the concrete resurfacing company leaves the jobsite, the following tips will help keep your new parking lot in good condition.

Keep Traffic Off the Pavement
After your new concrete parking lot is put in, keep traffic off the pavement
for at least three days. Truck traffic should be kept off even longer. The concrete needs to have about 3,000 psi compressive strength before
it takes a load. Your concrete resurfacing provider can tell you exactly how long you need to keep traffic off the pavement.

Seal Your Parking Lot
Although sealing isn’t necessary, it can keep your concrete parking lot looking really good. Just make sure you use a sealer that allows vapor to escape from within the concrete. You may also seal wide joints to keep out water and debris. Joint sealing is also necessary if heavy trucks will be driving over the joints, as the weight can cause pumping of the subbase and result in a loss of support beneath the joint.

Remove Stains and Repair Cracks
The Florida Concrete & Products Association recommends that stains
be removed at least once a year. Although stain removal is purely cosmetic, the refreshed look of a clean concrete parking lot can be appealing, especially
if your business caters to a discerning clientele. Cracks and potholes are also aesthetically unappealing but they can also affect the performance and lifespan of your parking lot, which is why you should seek concrete repairs and resurfacing when your parking lot starts to show signs of wear and tear.
